"A very pretty, chic dress in a gorgeous colour. I always have to take one size up, because the 38 I normally wear is a touch too tight at Ana Alcazar."

From the atelier

"We read every review ourselves, the enthusiastic and the critical ones. We learn most from the critical ones: they led us to the opacity note on every product page, to the shortening service and to more natural fibres."

Criticism & answers

What customers point out critically – and what we say about it

Around one in eight product reviews contains a critical remark. We read every single one. Here we answer the eight most frequent topics, each from the team responsible.

Do Ana Alcazar sizes run small or large?

It depends on the style. Relaxed cuts such as swing, balloon or tunic dresses sit loosely in your usual size, while fitted styles sit closer to the body, especially across the bust. That is why every item carries a fit note for that specific style, and every photo tells you how tall our model is and which size she wears. The size finder on the product page guides you to the right size from your own measurements. If in doubt, order two sizes and send one back: returns from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands are free.

I am 1.60 m or 1.80 m tall – will the lengths work for me?

Every item lists its length in centimetres: for dresses from shoulder to hem, for trousers the inside leg and the leg opening. You also see how tall our model is and which size she wears, so you can compare proportions directly with your own. At 1.60 m you can tell in advance whether a midi will fall longer on you; at 1.80 m, whether the length is enough. For selected trousers we have offered a free shortening service to your preferred length since October 2026, marked by the box "The length is on us" on the product page.

Why are some dresses unlined or made of synthetic fibres?

We work mainly with viscose, viscose-elastane and cotton-viscose blends, and the share of cotton, linen and silk grows from season to season. We use synthetic fibres deliberately where they outperform natural ones: mesh in summer is feather-light, crease-resistant and makes our prints look especially vivid, the ideal suitcase dress. Elastane gives freedom of movement, and cotton blends are more hard-wearing than pure cotton. Modern synthetics are better than their reputation: hold, fit and quality have come a long way, and in sportswear as in high fashion they have long been standard. Lining is decided style by style. Semi-sheer mesh dresses are lined; crêpe with a velvety inside and opaque, lightweight summer fabrics are worn without, not least because a lining creates static with some materials and the outer fabric then no longer falls freely. Every product page states the opacity: opaque, semi-sheer or sheer.

Does the colour look different in real life than in the photo?

We photograph every item in the studio from the front and back and match the colours to the original fabric under standardised light. Only then do the looks come together, with models or, clearly labelled, with AI-generated models; our pattern department checks every image for fit and length. Detail shots show fabric and print close up. One factor is in your hands: your screen. Brightness, night mode or blue-light filters visibly shift colour tones; a look in daylight without filters comes closest to the original. And if a colour feels different from what you expected, the 30-day return policy applies.

Has the quality at Ana Alcazar declined?

Our standards are the same as ten years ago; the materials have become finer. The share of cotton, linen and silk has risen considerably. Natural fibres feel special, and they respond more sensitively to washing and care than viscose blends. The care label matters more than ever; our magazine explains the symbols. Every item is checked by our quality team before dispatch: finish, seams, pressing, packaging. Production takes place exclusively in Europe, in Romania, Lithuania and Poland; small runs and exclusive pieces are made in our Munich ateliers. Our prices have remained stable; only styles in natural fibres or special blends cost more, and a growing share of our investment goes into product development and quality control. Should a detail ever bother you, write to our customer service, ideally with a photo. Within 24 hours (Mon–Fri) we review your case individually and find a solution.

How do returns work – is a return label included?

You have 30 days. Register your return in our returns portal, where you receive your return label immediately in digital form, as a QR code or to print. That is why there is no label in the parcel, and the invoice arrives by email too: less paper, and your return travels through us, so we can track and check the parcel at any time. Free from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands; €4.95 from other EU countries, €9.95 from Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Your refund is issued one to two days after your return has arrived and been checked.

What does an order to Switzerland really cost?

In the Swiss shop you see prices in CHF without German VAT, i.e. 19% below the German price. Shipping costs CHF 20. On delivery, Swiss Post collects the import charges: 8.1% VAT on goods plus shipping and a customs-handling fee from Swiss Post, currently from CHF 13 plus 3% of the value. Clothing has been free of customs duty since 2024. Example dress CHF 179: shipping CHF 20, VAT around CHF 16, handling around CHF 19, altogether around CHF 35 on top of the goods value. Returns go through our returns portal for €9.95; please attach the return label and the invoice to the outside of the parcel. You can reclaim the import VAT you paid from the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security within 60 days.

Will my dress arrive crease-free?

Each item is wrapped individually in protective paper or film and tissue paper, and the box size follows the size of your order, deliberately without hangers and with as little packaging as possible. Before dispatch, our quality team checks and presses every piece. In transit a garment can still shift and pick up creases; these usually drop out after hanging briefly or with a little steam. We take particular care with delicate details such as fabric flowers or sequins, and if an item arrives differently than expected, our customer service gets back to you within 24 hours with a solution.
